The Reds signed free-agent pitcher David Weathers to an one-year contract Sunday.
Weathers, a right-hander, was a combined 1-3 with an 8.42 ERA with the New York Yankess and Cleveland Indians last year. He was 4-3 with a 3.15 ERA in 11 starts for Class AAA Buffalo.
Overall, Weathers is 18-27 with a 5.67 ERA in seven seasons in the majors.
The Reds also did not tender contracts to left-handed pitcher Joey Eischen and outfielder Steve Gibralter. The Reds can continue to negotiate with Eischen and Gibralter.
Schott update
National League President Leonard Coleman said Reds CEO Marge Schott is still under review for allegedly using the names of Reds' employees to help falsify 57 sales at the Chevrolet-GEO dealership she once owned, but would not be specific about the depth of the discussion when Major League Baseball's Executive Council meets next month in Phoenix.
Schott is expected to be discussed at the meeting. Coleman told The Enquirer Sunday, ''It's still an open issue.''
