A day after being hit by a pitch from Houston's Roy Oswalt with first base open in the New York Mets' 5-4, 10-inning loss Wednesday, outfielder Cliff Floyd was wondering aloud.
Floyd hit a grand slam off Oswalt on May 14.
"I don't know the dude's history, so I'm not going to go on the record and say that he hit me on purpose," Floyd said Thursday. "You hope not, because he's one of the elite pitchers in the game.
"I thought about it a little bit last night. I thought of it after he hit me. I started breaking it down. I'm smart enough to realize that he gave me the inside the whole night. But I'm not an idiot, either. I'm not dumb. I know I took him deep."
Floyd was hit in the back of the ribs by a fastball in the fifth inning. X-rays were negative.
Tom Glavine won't pitch again for the Mets until at least Aug. 21 while he recovers from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
ANGELS: Designated hitter Tim Salmon wants to hold off on surgery for his ailing left shoulder until after this season and instead help Anaheim on its postseason push.
PHILLIES: Outfielder Pat Burrell will seek a second opinion on his strained left wrist and delay season-ending surgery for at least a week in hopes of returning to Philadelphia's lineup this season.
