AL: Tribe's Broussard rips second pinch-hit slam

CLEVELAND - Pinch-hitter Ben Broussard hit his second grand slam in four days, sending the Cleveland Indians over the Toronto Blue Jays 6-2 on Thursday night.

Broussard has three slams this season, including a shot Monday against the White Sox. He is the fourth player in major-league history with two pinch-hit slams in one season, joining Dave Johnson (1978), Mike Ivie (1978) and Darryl Strawberry (1998).

The Indians won for the seventh time in eight games and stayed three games behind Minnesota in the AL Central race. The Twins start a three-game series at Jacobs Field tonight.

Batting for Josh Phelps, Broussard connected off Vinnie Chulk to highlight a five-run rally in the seventh inning.

Broussard is 6-for-9 with three grand slams and 21 RBI with the bases loaded this season.

Orioles 6, Angels 1

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Melvin Mora homered and drove in three runs, Rodrigo Lopez pitched seven strong innings to lead Baltimore over Anaheim.

The victory was Baltimore's ninth in 10 games, and ended Bartolo Colon's six-game winning streak.

Red Sox 6, Devil Rays 0

BOSTON - Pedro Martinez struck out 10 in a six-hitter for his first shutout in almost four years and Boston's fifth win in six games.

Martinez (13-4) walked none and passed Bob Feller and Warren Spahn for 21st place in career strikeouts with 2,590.

David Ortiz had two RBI, giving him a career-high 102.

Twins 6, Mariners 3

SEATTLE - Johan Santana was steady for seven innings, and Justin Morneau homered twice as Minnesota ended a four-game losing streak.

Santana (12-6) struck out seven, increasing his major league-leading total to 190. Joe Nathan struck out the side in the ninth for his 33rd save in 34 chances.

Tigers 5, Athletics 3

OAKLAND, Calif. - Craig Monroe homered and drove in three runs, and Rondell White hit a tiebreaking shot in the sixth inning for Detroit.

Mike Maroth (9-7) pitched seven solid innings to win his fourth straight decision.

White Sox 3, Royals 2

CHICAGO - White Sox utilityman Ross Gload, filling in at first base for Paul Konerko, hit a tiebreaking homer.

Carl Everett hit a two-run homer in the first inning for the White Sox, who received six strong innings from starter Freddy Garcia (10-9).
