A year ago today, the Reds were in the midst of a four-day stretch that overhauled the organization, both in the front office and in on-field personnel. Here is a recap of their moves:
July 28: The Reds fired their general manager of 11 years, Jim Bowden, and field manager of two-and-a-half years, Bob Boone; they also fired hitting coach Tom Robson and third-base coach Tim Foli. Dave Miley was named interim manager.
July 29: The Reds traded reliever and 1999 NL Rookie of the Year Scott Williamson to the Boston Red Sox for minor-league pitcher Phil Dumatrait, a player to be named (minor-league pitcher Tyler Pelland) and cash considerations.
July 30: The Reds traded often-disgruntled outfielder Jose Guillen, having a breakout season as the team's best hitter, to the Oakland A's for starting pitcher Aaron Harang and minor-league relievers Joe Valentine and Jeff Bruksch.
July 31: The Reds finished the four-day flurry by dealing third baseman Aaron Boone, popular with fans and his teammates, to the Yankees for their top minor-league prospect, left-handed starter Brandon Claussen, minor-league starter Charlie Manning and cash.
