BALTIMORE - Pedro Martinez earned his 11th victory in ending a run of frustration against the Baltimore Orioles, and the Boston Red Sox put on another hitting show Monday night in a 12-5 blowout.
Martinez was pulled with one out in the seventh inning during a steady rain. He allowed five runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out five.
Martinez is 7-1 in his last 12 starts. His only loss during that stretch came last Wednesday against the Orioles, when he was touched for eight runs and nine hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Jason Varitek singled in two runs to cap a six-run third inning against rookie Erik Bedard, and the Red Sox coasted to their third straight win. Varitek, who had three RBI, missed Boston's previous game, a 9-6 win over the New York Yankees, with a sore hand. Gabe Kapler and Manny Ramirez both had three hits, and David Ortiz drew three walks and had two RBIs for the Red Sox, who have scored 39 runs on 52 hits in their last four games.
Tigers 13, Indians 4
CLEVELAND - Mike Maroth pitched seven soggy innings, and Detroit got home runs from Carlos Guillen and Marcus Thames.
Thames hit a two-run homer in Detroit's six-run first inning against Cliff Lee (10-3), and Guillen hit a three-run shot when the Tigers added six more in the fifth to open a 12-2 lead - without any offensive help from Ivan Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, who entered the night as the AL's leading hitter, went 0-for-4 and was the only Tigers starter without a hit on a misty night at Jacobs Field.
Maroth (8-7) rode the run support to his third straight win. The left-hander allowed four runs and eight hits.
Yankees 6, Blue Jays 5, 10
TORONTO - Tony Clark hit a go-ahead double in the 10th inning after Mariano Rivera blew his second straight save in the ninth.
Rivera converted 23 consecutive saves before giving up three runs in an 11-10 loss to Boston on Saturday. He failed to hold a two-run lead in the ninth inning against Toronto, but Clark hit a two-out double off Jason Frasor (3-3).
Toronto center fielder Vernon Wells nearly made a running catch on the warning track, but the ball ticked off his glove, allowing Jorge Posada, who walked, to score the go-ahead run.
Twins 6, White Sox 2
CHICAGO - Brad Radke allowed three hits in seven innings, and Henry Blanco homered off nemesis Mark Buehrle to lead Minnesota over Chicago.
Radke (7-6) retired the final 16 batters he faced and did not allow a hit after the second, when he gave up Paul Konerko's 27th homer and a single to Timo Perez.
