BOSTON - The Boston Red Sox obtained infielder Ricky Gutierrez from the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday for a player to be named or cash.
Earlier in the day, Boston put infielder Pokey Reese on the disabled list with a strained ribcage. In addition, starting shortstop Nomar Garciaparra still is working himself back after missing much of the season.
Gutierrez, 34, was hitting.368 with 10 RBI in 20 games for Triple-A Iowa.
METS: Third baseman David Wright, 21, was recalled after Mike Piazza sprained his wrist Tuesday night. An MRI showed no structural damage in Piazza's wrist and the Mets chose not to put him on the disabled list.
INDIANS: Outfielder Grady Sizemore was recalled from the minors. Sizemore, 21, batted .292 with seven homers and 49 RBI in 95 games at Triple-A. Since May 21, he batted .331 with 30 RBI and raised his average from .228 to .292.
PADRES: The team lifted the suspension of overall No. 1 draft pick Matt Bush, who was arrested last month for an incident in a bar.
