AL: Colon finally gives good outing for win

The Associated Press

TORONTO - Bartolo Colon pitched seven strong innings for his second win in his last 11 starts, and Vladimir Guerrero drove in three runs to lead the Anaheim Angels to a 5-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.

Colon (6-8) entered with the highest ERA among AL starters at 6.57. The 31-year-old right-hander, who signed a four-year, $51 million contract during the offseason, allowed four runs - three earned - on five hits and lowered his ERA to 6.38.

Reigning AL Cy Young award winner Roy Halladay (7-6) gave up five runs on a career-high 12 hits - all singles - in six innings.

White Sox 6, Mariners 2

CHICAGO - Carlos Lee homered twice and drove in five runs, and Jon Garland pitched seven solid innings to lead Chicago over depleted Seattle.

Magglio Ordonez went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Chicago in his first game since coming off the disabled list.

Tigers 5, Twins 3

MINNEAPOLIS - Jason Smith hit two of Detroit's three homers to help the Tigers beat Minnesota. Carlos Guillen hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Gary Knotts (5-3) stifled the Twins for his first win in five starts.

Royals 7, Orioles 0

BALTIMORE - Mike Sweeney ended Kansas City's club-record streak of 32 scoreless innings with a two-run double in the sixth, and the Royals snapped an eight-game skid. Darrell May (6-9) pitched a five-hitter for his third career shutout.

Red Sox 7, Rangers 0

BOSTON - Johnny Damon went 4-for-5 with two homers and four RBI, and Bronson Arroyo allowed three hits in eight innings for his first win since May 15 for Boston's fourth consecutive win.

Indians 5, Athletics 4

CLEVELAND - Pinch hitter Lou Merloni's two-run single capped Cleveland's three-run ninth inning off Octavio Dotel as the Indians rallied again.

Merloni ripped the first pitch from Dotel (1-1) down the left-field line with the bases loaded to score Omar Vizquel and Travis Hafner.

Yankees 5, Devil Rays 4

NEW YORK - Paul Quantrill and Mariano Rivera made sure the New York Yankees held off Tampa Bay for the second consecutive night. Quantrill relieved Javier Vazquez with a two-ball count and the bases loaded in the sixth inning and escaped the jam.
