TOLEDO, Ohio - Marcus Thames hit the tying, two-run homer in the eighth inning and the game-winning shot leading off the 13th to give the Toledo Mud Hens a 4-3 win over the Louisville Bats on Saturday night.
Thames has 24 home runs this season, topping the International League. His first homer of the game erased the 3-1 lead Louisville took in the top of the eighth on Juan Castro's RBI single and Kenny Kelly's RBI triple.
Thames' second homer came off Joe Valentine (1-1), who had pitched out of trouble in the 12th to keep the game tied.
Toledo took the lead in the first on Joe Vitiello's RBI single. Louisville tied the score 1-1 in the sixth on Jason Romano's second homer of the season.
Mud Hens starter Andy Van Hekken allowed three runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out 11 in 7 2-3 innings. John Ennis (8-5) pitched two scoreless innings for the win.
Bats starter Matt Belisle gave up three runs and 10 hits in eight innings.
Castro, a utility infielder on the Cincinnati Reds' disabled list with strained muscles in his ribcage, started at third base for Louisville and went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
