The Reds' trade for left-hander Gabe White Friday brings another arm to a weary bullpen. Of course, that probably wouldn't have been necessary had they not jettisoned Scott Sullivan, Scott Williamson, Kent Mercker, Felix Heredia and White last season, and Chris Reitsma this spring.
Here's a look at how those guys are faring (entering Saturday).
Chris Reitsma (for Jung Keun Bong and Bubba Nelson). Reitsma had a bad four-run outing this week that helped raise his ERA to 4.14. But he's 3-2 in 34 games and has been a strong setup man for John Smoltz.
Scott Sullivan (for player to be named later, Tim Hummel, from White Sox ). A prime trade prospect, Sullivan is 3-1 with a 3.60 ERA for Kansas City in 25 games.
Felix Heredia (waivers, to the Yankees). He had been injured and is 1-1 with a 7.98 ERA in 14 games.
Gabe White (player to be named, eventually cash, to Yankees). Like Heredia, he has been injured. He was 0-1 with an 8.27 ERA in 24 games and four saves before Friday's deal.
Scott Williamson (for lefty pitchers Phil Dumatrait and Tyler Pelland from Boston). Injured also, he returned last week. He's 0-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 17 games with one save.
Kent Mercker (player to be named later, Matt Belisle, from Braves). A key member of the Cubs bullpen, he's 1-0 with a 2.55 ERA in 26 games.
Who's hot
Barry Larkin. Is there any question how much he means to this team? Despite missing five games with an abdominal strain, he's hitting .370 in June with a .438 on-base percentage. He's hitting .299 with 28 RBI and 37 runs scored, third on the team.
Who's not
John Riedling. The discussion is no longer if he should replace Danny Graves as closer. He has struggled mightily, posting a 17.47 ERA in his last five appearances, raising his ERA from 1.50 to 4.04.
Trivia question
Sean Casey entered Saturday leading the majors in total bases (159). Who was the last Red to lead the NL in total bases?
Walk in the park
Adam Dunn can walk with the best of them. Dunn entered Saturday second in the major leagues to Barry Bonds, with 57 bases on balls. Dunn was also second to Bonds in intentional walks, with 10. Bonds had been intentionally walked 51 times, more than any major-league team!
Dunn also strikes out. He has either walked or struck out in 153 of his 279 plate appearances - 55 percent.
By the numbers
8-2: Reds' record in series at Great American Ball Park.

Trivia answer
Dave Parker led the NL in total bases in 1986 (304) and 1985 (350).
