CHICAGO - Carlos Zambrano pitched eight solid innings and Rey Ordonez hit a two-run single in the seventh to lead the Cubs over Pittsburgh.

Derrek Lee added a two-run homer in the eighth for Chicago, which snapped a 3-game losing streak.

Zambrano (6-2) allowed one run on four hits, and struck out seven and walked two. He retired six of the last seven batters he faced.

Pittsburgh was without manager Lloyd Mclendon, serving the first of a two-game suspension for his shouting match with Cardinals manager Tony La Russa on Thursday. The Pirates have lost six of their last seven games.

Kris Benson (4-5) pitched 6 1-3 innings, allowing three runs - two earned - and gave up three hits. He struck out seven and walked two. He retired his first 10 batters.

Cardinals 10, Astros 4

ST. LOUIS - Jim Edmonds overcame a sore ribcage to drive in four runs and throw out a runner at third base.

Edmonds almost didn't start after straining a ribcage muscle on his right side during batting practice the previous night, but chose to play - helping the Cardinals win their sixth in a row.

Albert Pujols went 4-for-5, and the Cardinals had a season-high 19 hits to move nine games over .500. and remain a game behind NL Central-leading Cincinnati.

Jason Marquis (5-4) struck out seven and allowed four runs in five innings.

The Cardinals chased Tim Redding (3-4) by scoring four in the fifth inning.

Padres 4, Brewers 0

SAN DIEGO - Ismael Valdez threw a four-hitter for his sixth career shutout and drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk to lead San Diego past Milwaukee.

Valdez (5-2) retired 12 in a row during one stretch, and 16 of the final 17 batters for his 13th career complete game. After going five straight starts in May without a victory, Valdez has two consecutive wins against the Brewers.

Jay Payton went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Mark Loretta drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Wes Obermueller (3-2) allowed four runs on seven hits and walked three in five innings for Milwaukee, which has been shut out three times.

Marlins 7, Mets 6

NEW YORK - Pinch-hitter Damion Easley hit a tying three-run homer in the seventh inning, and Alex Gonzalez had a two-out, RBI single in the eighth to give the Florida Marlins a 7-6 win over the New York Mets on Saturday.

With runners on second and third in the seventh, Lenny Harris was sent in as a pinch hitter but the Mets called for left-hander Mike Stanton. Easley batted for Harris and hit his second homer of the season to tie it at 5.

An inning later, Hee Seop Choi beat out an infield single with two outs against reliever David Weathers (5-2). Jeff Conine walked and Gonzalez followed with a single to right. Choi beat Shane Spencer's throw to the plate, sliding under catcher Vance Wilson's tag.

Matt Perisho (4-2) pitched 1 1-3 for the win.

Armando Benitez allowed Mike Piazza second homer of the game leading off the ninth before finishing for his 22nd save in 23 opportunities.

Phillies 5, Braves 3

ATLANTA - Ricky Ledee drove in three runs and Brett Myers overcame a rough opening inning to win for the first time in three starts, leading Philadelphia over the Braves.

The Braves, losing two straight for the first time in 17 games, fell to 27-28, their worst record this late in the season since having an identical record on June 6, 1992.

After allowing two runs and three hits in the first, Myers (4-3) gave up just three more hits in his seven innings. He walked four and struck out five.

Tim Worrell struck out the side in the ninth for his eighth save.

Russ Ortiz (6-5) lost for the first time in three starts, allowing nine hits, five runs and three walks in six innings. The right-hander struck out eight.

Rockies 11, Giants 2

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies kept Barry Bonds from hurting them this time - by giving the slugger only two hittable pitches.

Todd Greene and Royce Clayton each hit two-run homers, and Jason Jennings (5-5) pitched five-plus strong innings in the Rockies' 11-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night.

Bonds walked three times, twice intentionally, but doubled off the wall in right-center in the seventh against Tim Harikkala. He still finished 1-for-1 to raise his average at Coors Field to .328.

Kirk Rueter (2-5) never got into a groove in his 12th start of the season. He allowed nine hits and four earned runs, struck out one and walked two in 4 2-3 innings.

Dodgers 10, Diamondbacks 3

PHOENIX - Paul Lo Duca homered in his third consecutive game, and Dave Roberts hit a three-run homer for Los Angeles.

Odalis Perez (3-3) gave up three runs on eight hits in five innings, but issued no walks for his first win in seven starts since April 28. He also had an RBI ground-rule double in helping the Dodgers win for the sixth time in seven games.

Robby Hammock and Luis Gonzalez drove in runs for the Diamondbacks, who dropped their fourth in a row to the division leaders.

Edgar Gonzalez (0-1), recalled from Triple-A Tucson just hours before the game, gave up six of his eight hits and one of two walks in the Dodgers' six-run fourth inning. It was his first start in the majors since June 6, 2003.
