Reds vs. Marlins series preview



When: Today, 4:05 p.m., Tuesday 7:05 p.m., Wednesday, 1:05 p.m.

Where: Pro Player Stadium.

TV: Fox Sports Ohio, today and Tuesday.

Radio: WLW (700 AM).

Records: Reds 29-21, first place in the National League Central. Marlins 30-20, first place in the NL East.

The arms: Today - RHP Todd Van Poppel (2-2, 3.63 ERA) vs. LHP Tommy Phelps (1-0, 2.05); Tuesday - RHP Aaron Harang (4-2, 5.27) vs. RHP Brad Penny (6-2, 2.12); Wednesday - RHP Cory Lidle (4-4, 4.73) vs. LHP Dontrelle Willis (5-3, 3.99).

The bats: The Marlins are a middle-of-the-pack team offensively. They are eighth in the NL in slugging and ninth in on-base percentage. Mike Lowell (.344, 14 home runs, 31 RBI) is having a terrific year.

The rest: The Marlins and the Reds have the two best records in the NL. The Reds are 3-6 against Florida since Jack McKeon, a former Reds manager, took over as manager.
