MALDEN, Mass. - Nomar Garciaparra's agent thinks the star shortstop will stay with the Boston Red Sox after this season.
Arn Tellem spoke Monday night moments after chatting with Red Sox owner John Henry at Garciaparra's annual bowling fund-raiser.
Garciaparra can become a free agent after the season.
"He wants to stay here and I personally would like to see him stay here," Tellem said. "You can see the outpouring here. Everyone wants him to stay here and I know both sides would like him to stay and I believe in the end that's what will happen."
Garciaparra is making $11.5 million in the final year of his contract. Last offseason, the Red Sox tried to obtain shortstop Alex Rodriguez from Texas for Manny Ramirez. The Red Sox then were expected to trade Garciaparra to open a spot for Rodriguez.
Garciaparra said he was hurt that he learned about that on television. It damaged relations between the team and Tellem.
"We apologized to each other several months ago for getting upset," Henry said. "You're going to get upset once in a while, but no one should get upset in public with each other, so we've been very friendly since we met for the first time in spring training."
Tellem said: "I echo his comments. It's all behind us."
CUBS: Pitcher Kerry Wood's right arm is structurally sound, a bone scan showed Monday, but the Chicago Cubs' ace is still expected to miss up to three weeks.
The test confirmed the original diagnosis of tendinitis in the lower triceps muscle. There was no evidence of a stress fracture.
EXPOS: The team activated outfielder Peter Bergeron from the 15-day disabled list Monday and outrighted him to Triple-A Edmonton.
Bergeron, sidelined since April 19 by a right rib strain, was recalled from a rehabilitation assignment with Class-A Brevard County. He hit .214 (9-for-42) with one RBI in 11 games before the injury.
BLUE JAYS: First baseman Carlos Delgado left Monday night's game against the Anaheim Angels after the third inning with a jammed right knee.
Delgado, who has a history of knee problems, was called out at second base on a fielder's choice in the third. Dave Berg replaced him at first to start the fourth.
BREWERS: Third baseman Wes Helms will miss two-to-four weeks after having surgery Monday on his strained right knee.
Helms was hurt Wednesday when he slipped on a wet ramp outside the clubhouse at the ballpark in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where Milwaukee was playing Montreal.
