White Sox bash way to first place

American League

The Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS - The Chicago White Sox punctuated their successful trip to Minnesota with a rout.

Carlos Lee had four hits and drove in six runs, and Miguel Olivo and Juan Uribe hit consecutive homers in an eight-run fourth inning to lead the Chicago White Sox over the Twins 17-7 Sunday.

"To come to Minnesota and play the way we did, it's just fun leaving this town," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said.

Chicago took three of four in the series to move into a tie with the Twins for first place in the AL Central.

Yankees 8, Rangers 3

ARLINGTON, Texas - Enrique Wilson homered and drove in three runs, and New York avoided a three-game sweep in Alex Rodriguez's return to Arlington. Rodriguez went 2-for-4 and extended his streak of consecutive games reaching base to 32, the longest in the majors this season.

Red Sox 7, Blue Jays 2

BOSTON - David Ortiz had three hits and three RBI, Tim Wakefield pitched seven solid innings and Boston completed a three-game sweep. The win was the seventh in nine games for the Red Sox, who jumped to a 6-0 lead after three innings. Toronto has lost five straight on the road.

Devil Rays 5, Indians 4, 10 innings

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Tino Martinez's bases-loaded single in the 10th inning gave Tampa Bay a victory over Cleveland and its first four-game winning streak this season. Alex Escobar homered for the Indians, who have lost five straight for the second time this season.

Mariners 3, Tigers 1

SEATTLE - Freddy Garcia pitched seven strong innings and John Olerud hit a solo home run to lead the Mariners to only their third win in 14 games. Seattle avoided a sweep of the three-game series after the Tigers won the first two.

Angels 8, Orioles 3

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Vladimir Guerrero homered, Jose Guillen hit a three-run double and the Angels completed a three-game sweep. The sweep was the Angels' fifth this season of at least three games, and they have the best record in baseball at 29-15, tying the best start in franchise history, and lead the AL West by 3 1/2 games.

Athletics 3, Royals 2, 10 innings

OAKLAND, Calif. - Eric Byrnes singled in the winning run in the 10th, and Oakland completed its second three-game sweep of Kansas City in a week. The A's have won five straight and eight of nine overall, and have beaten the Royals 10 straight times, their longest streak ever against K.C.
