ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Curt Schilling allowed one run in seven innings, and Manny Ramirez hit a two-run homer to lead the Boston Red Sox over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 4-1 Wednesday night.
Schilling (5-3) gave up five hits, walked one and struck out five. With 2,603 strikeouts, he moved within seven tying Chuck Finley for 19th on the career list.
Johnny Damon also homered for American League East-leading Boston, which has outhomered opponents 50-25.
Keith Foulke got four outs for his eighth save in as many chances this season. With runners at the corners in the eighth, he relieved Alan Embree, fell behind in the count 3-2, then retired pinch-hitter Jose Cruz Jr. on an inning-ending grounder.
Tino Martinez had an RBI double for the Devil Rays, who have lost five straight games and 12 of their last 13. Tampa Bay, a major league-worst 10-28, is 0-5 against the Red Sox this season, getting outscored 28-7.
Damon hit a solo homer and Ramirez had a two-run shot that made it 4-1 in the third. Ramirez's drive to center was his 356th career homer, which moved him past Greg Vaughn into 63rd on the career list, two behind Yogi Berra.
Royals 5, Rangers 3
ARLINGTON, Texas - Juan Gonzalez hit a three-run homer against his former team, and Jimmy Gobble held the Texas offense in check for Kansas City.
Gobble (2-2) gave up three runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings, helping the Royals earn their fifth road win this season and second in two nights. Angel Berroa and Ken Harvey each added a solo shot for the Royals, who have six homers in the first two games of the three-game set.
White Sox 15, Indians 3
CLEVELAND - Frank Thomas had five RBI and Paul Konerko added four for Chicago to back Scott Schoeneweis.
Thomas busted out of a 2-for-19 slump by going 3-for-4 with two walks as the White Sox opened a big lead and then poured it on by scoring six times in the eighth.
White Sox outfielder Magglio Ordonez and second baseman Willie Harris both sustained injuries when they collided while trying to run down a fly ball in the seventh. They both left the field unassisted, but Ordonez bruised his left knee and Harris hurt his left ankle and shin.
Twins 6, Blue Jays 5
TORONTO - Pinch-hitter Matthew LeCroy hit a grand slam in the ninth inning to win the game for Minnesota.
Torii Hunter, Michael Ryan and Henry Blanco singled off Toronto closer Terry Adams (3-3) before LeCroy came to the plate in place of Alex Prieto. He sent his first homer of the season over the center-field wall to put the Twins ahead.
