Test finds no tear in Wood's arm

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - Chicago Cubs ace Kerry Wood is expected to miss his next scheduled start because of a sore arm, but tests Wednesday found no tears in the All-Star's triceps.

Wood left Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers after two innings as a precaution after feeling tightness in his right triceps muscle. He was examined Wednesday and an MRI exam showed inflammation underneath the muscle and mild tendinitis in his elbow.

In other news, three-time Gold Glove shortstop Rey Ordonez agreed to a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Wednesday, one week after Alex Gonzalez broke a bone in his right wrist.

DIAMONDBACKS: Arizona sent struggling right-hander Elmer Dessens to the bullpen and will activate Casey Fossum to join the rotation.

Dessens is 1-4 with a 7.56 ERA and has failed to get past the fifth inning in four of seven starts.

TRADE: Second baseman Frank Menechino was traded from Oakland to the Toronto Blue Jays for future considerations. Menechino, 33, hit .091 in 33 at-bats and 13 games with the A's this season.

SHORT HOPS: Troy Glaus was a late scratch from the Anaheim Angels' lineup Wednesday night because of a sprained right knee.

• Minnesota third baseman Corey Koskie was out of Wednesday's starting lineup with a strained sternum, and the Twins were leaning toward putting him on the 15-day disabled list.
