DETROIT - Damian Miller hit a tiebreaking, two-out single in the 15th inning Tuesday night to lead the Oakland Athletics over the Detroit Tigers 5-4.
Eric Chavez and Jermaine Dye hit singles off Danny Patterson (0-2), and Scott Hatteberg was intentionally walked to load the bases with two outs to set up the game-winning hit. Miller singled to right, but Brandon Inge's throw home prevented Dye from giving the A's a two-run cushion.
Justin Duchscherer (1-1) allowed only hit over five innings, and Jim Mecir pitched the 15th for his second save.
Oakland has won four of its last five games after losing nine of 11.
Twins 7, Mariners 6, 11 innings
MINNEAPOLIS - Shannon Stewart knocked the ball out of catcher Dan Wilson's glove to score from second base in the 11th inning for Minnesota. The Twins have gone into extra innings seven times this year, including four of their last seven games.
Stewart, who was slow to get up after the collision, scored on Doug Mientkiewicz's bloop single off Ron Villone (3-1). Randy Winn's throw easily had Stewart beat at the plate, but the 5-foot-11, 200-pound Stewart knocked the ball loose.
Red Sox 5, Indians 3
BOSTON - Pinch-hitter David McCarty had a two-run triple that broke an eighth-inning tie for Boston.
Starter Pedro Martinez struck out 11, but Alan Embree (1-0) won despite giving up a solo homer to Victor Martinez.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Juan Gonzalez hit a tiebreaking single in the sixth inning off AL Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay, and Kansas City ended Toronto's six-game winning streak. Mike Sweeney added a two-run double in a three-run seventh inning for the Royals.
White Sox 15, Orioles 0
CHICAGO - Mark Buehrle got his first victory in a month, and Magglio Ordonez's five RBI led an offensive barrage that powered Chicago.
Ordonez went 4-for-5 and had an RBI in each of his first three at-bats. Frank Thomas hit a three-run homer and Jose Valentin homered and drove in three runs for the White Sox, who snapped a season-worst three-game losing streak.
Rangers 5, Devil Rays 4
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Hank Blalock homered twice, and Laynce Nix had a two-run shot as Texas gave Tampa Bay its sixth straight loss and 13th in its last 15 games.
Blalock's second homer of the game, in the eighth inning, tied the score at 4. Kevin Mench's bases-loaded grounder later in the inning knocked in the game-winner.
