BALTIMORE - Scott Schoeneweis turned in a unique performance at Camden Yards, and the Chicago White Sox won in a fashion that has become all too familiar.
Schoeneweis pitched seven innings of two-hit ball, and the surging White Sox scored three runs in the seventh inning of a 5-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.
Joe Crede homered for the White Sox, who have won five of six. Chicago is 10-1 in one-run games this season - best in the majors.
"We always keep winning, that's all I care, no matter how my heart is going to be after this season," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said.
Crede's shot tied it at 1 in the sixth, and Chicago went up 4-1 an inning later against Mike DeJean (0-3).
Melvin Mora drove in two runs with a two-out single in the ninth off Billy Koch, who loaded the bases on three walks. Miguel Tejada, who also had two RBIs, then grounded sharply to short. But Juan Uribe turned it into a game-ending fielder's choice that gave Koch his fourth save in five tries.
"That kid made a heck of a play to end the game," Orioles manager Lee Mazzilli said.
The Orioles finished with six hits, but four of those came after the White Sox had taken control.
Schoeneweis (3-1) allowed one run, struck out three and walked three in winning his third straight decision. He came in 0-2 with a 9.55 ERA in nine career appearances at Camden Yards, including a debacle in 2001, when he allowed 11 runs in four innings as a member of the Anaheim Angels.
"It's the cliche of you can't go anywhere but up," he said. "I just feel like I'm a more complete pitcher than I was in the past coming in here."
He sure looked good against the Orioles, who got only one runner past second base against the left-hander after taking a 1-0 lead in the first.
"He did what you have to do. He threw strikes," Baltimore leadoff hitter Brian Roberts said. "When you make people swing the bat all night, you're doing the right thing."
Indians 2, Red Sox 1
CLEVELAND - Jake Westbrook pitched six more shutout innings and Victor Martinez hit a two-run homer off Curt Schilling.
Westbrook (2-1) strengthened his case to win a permanent spot in Cleveland's rotation by holding the Red Sox to six hits and outdueling Schilling (3-2).
Westbrook has given up just two runs and eight hits in his last 22 innings. Using his sinker to perfection, the right-hander got 13 outs on groundballs as the Red Sox lost their fourth straight.
Rafael Betancourt worked the ninth for his first save - and just the Indians' third in nine tries.
Rangers 9, Devil Rays 0
ARLINGTON, Texas - Kenny Rogers pitched a four-hitter, and Alfonso Soriano hit a two-run homer, and David Dellucci and Michael Young each had three-run shots in an eight-run first inning as Texas won its fifth straight.
Rogers (4-1) struck out four, walked one and helped protect his eighth career shutout when he made a lunging grab of a line drive by Rocco Baldelli with runners at first and second to end the third inning. It was the 34th complete game of Rogers' career.
The Devil Rays, coming off an 8-2 win over Oakland on Sunday, have gone 25 games without back-to-back victories. That's the longest such streak since Baltimore failed to win two straight over the first 25 games in 1999.
Texas, which has won nine of 10, sent 11 to the plate in the first against Paul Abbott (2-3).
Royals 3, Blue Jays 2, 10 innings
TORONTO - Aaron Guiel homered in the 10th inning and Kansas City beat the Blue Jays after nearly wasting a stellar outing by Jimmy Gobble.
The left-hander retired his first 16 batters and came within one out of a shutout for the Royals, who snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 2-10 on the road.
Gobble gave up a two-out double to Carlos Delgado in the ninth and an RBI single to Josh Phelps, cutting it to 2-1.
Mike MacDougal then came in and blew the lead.
He gave up a single to Eric Hinske and walked pinch-hitter Frank Catalanotto, loading the bases. MacDougal then walked Orlando Hudson, tying it at 2.
But Nate Field (1-0) got out of the inning, and Guiel hit a 3-2 pitch from Terry Adams (2-1) over the right-center fence with one out in the 10th.
