Cardinals take pitchers' battle

The Associated Press

ST. LOUIS - Scott Rolen lined a bases-loaded single to the warning track in the 10th inning, giving the St. Louis Cardinals a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.

Kyle Farnsworth (0-2) gave up the hit to Rolen.

Albert Pujols was ejected during the rally after twice confronting plate umpire Angel Hernandez.

Carlos Zambrano had a career-best 12 strikeouts for the Cubs, matching zeros with Matt Morris, who allowed four hits in nine scoreless innings for St. Louis.

Jason Isringhausen (2-0) pitched a scoreless 10th.

Phillies 6, Diamondbacks 5, 14 innings

PHILADELPHIA - Ricky Ledee drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the 14th inning, helping Philadelphia to a series win.

After the Diamondbacks took a 5-4 lead in the 14th on Matt Kata's RBI single, Philadelphia rallied against Oscar Villarreal (0-2), Arizona's seventh pitcher.

Ryan Madson (2-1) earned the win with three innings in relief.

Pirates 4, Brewers 3, 11 innings

MILWAUKEE - Craig Wilson homered in the 11th inning and drove in three runs to lead Pittsburgh to its sixth straight road win.

Wilson's homer came off Jeff Bennett (1-1).

Brian Meadows (2-0) got the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Jose Mesa pitched the 11th for his ninth save.

Rockies 13, Braves 4

DENVER - Luis Gonzalez hit a three-run homer and Colorado took advantage of seven errors by Atlanta - including four by third baseman Mark DeRosa.

The Braves tied a franchise record with their seven miscues, which led to eight unearned runs by the Rockies.

Shawn Estes (4-1) pitched seven innings to become the fourth National League pitcher to win four games.

Mets 6, Padres 2

SAN DIEGO - Tom Glavine pitched six solid innings and drove in a run, helping New York snap San Diego's six-game winning streak.

Glavine (4-1) scattered five hits, struck out six and reached base three times. He earned his 255th career win.

Ismael Valdez (3-1) allowed five runs and seven hits in five innings. The Padres had won eight straight home games.

Expos 6, Dodgers 4

LOS ANGELES - Orlando Cabrera hit a tiebreaking home run in the sixth inning to help Montreal snap a six-game losing streak.

Sun-Woo Kim (1-0) earned his first win in the majors since July 2, 2002, allowing two runs and four hits over five innings.

Cabrera led off the sixth with his third of the season to give the Expos a 3-2 lead against Hideo Nomo (3-3).

Giants 9, Marlins 8, 11 innings

SAN FRANCISCO - Yorvit Torrealba hit a second-inning grand slam, then doubled home Barry Bonds for the go-ahead run in the 11th inning.

Torrealba, the Giants' backup catcher, had three hits in their third straight victory over Florida. San Francisco scored 27 runs in the wins with no homers from Bonds, who got the Giants' final rally started with a walk as a pinch-hitter.
