Cubs legend/radioman Ron Santo has always been one of Marty Brennaman's favorite targets for his sharp wit. But this weekend, the friendly feud turned a bit unfriendly.
Santo said on air that the Reds must have a Krispy Kreme sponsorship because closer Danny Graves is overweight.
Someone in Graves' family heard the remark. Graves, who is playing 10 pounds lighter this year, wasn't happy, and asked Brennaman to find out who said it. Brennaman did - and added a few sharp comments about Santo. Santo wasn't happy about that.
"I don't know why he's mad at Marty," Graves said. "He was just sticking up for me."
Graves kept his humor about the situation and on Sunday presented Santo with a signed box of Krispy Kremes. It read: "Breakfast is on me. Save one for me. P.S. Save one for Marty, too."
Santo accepted the gift with a smile, but says he's not talking to Brennaman - ever again.
