HOUSTON - Roy Oswalt pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10 in his second career shutout, leading the Houston Astros to a 2-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night.
Oswalt (2-0) retired 17 of his final 18 batters and threw just 94 pitches. He walked none and matched a career low for hits allowed, accomplished twice before.
The right-hander's other shutout was Sept. 9, 2001, also against Milwaukee. This was his fourth career complete game.
Only one Brewers baserunner, Scott Podsednik in the fourth inning, advanced past first base. Podsednik reached third after stealing two bases.
Doug Davis (1-2) was the loser, going six innings and giving up one run and five hits. He walked four and struck out three.
Braves 5, Marlins 4
ATLANTA - Eli Marrero and Chipper Jones each hit two-run homers, Julio Franco knocked in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in a three-run sixth, and Atlanta beat Florida to end the Marlins' seven-game winning streak.
The Braves ended the Marlins' team-record scoreless string at 31 innings when Marrero hit a two-run homer off Darren Oliver after a single by catcher Johnny Estrada tied it at 2.
Atlanta starter Jaret Wright (1-1) allowed five hits, walked three and struck out six in six innings.
Kevin Gryboski and Chris Reitsma each pitched a scoreless inning, and John Smoltz pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save.
Oliver (1-1) gave up eight hits, five runs, didn't walk a batter and struck out six in six innings.
Phillies 4, Expos 2
PHILADELPHIA - Jim Thome went 4-for-4 with a home run, and Pat Burrell also homered to lead Philadelphia over Montreal in the first night game at Citizens Bank Park.
Eric Milton allowed two runs over six innings for Philadelphia, which has won two straight for the first time this season.
Milton (1-0), signed as a free agent last offseason after six seasons in Minnesota, struck out six - one in each inning - and walked none for his first win with the Phillies.
Tim Worrell followed with two scoreless innings, and closer Billy Wagner pitched a perfect ninth for his third save, reaching at least 100 mph on the radar gun three times.
Tony Batista homered in the second inning to end the Expos' scoreless drought at 34 innings. Batista added a double for Montreal, which lost its fifth straight.
Livan Hernandez (0-2) gave up three runs and eight hits in six innings for Montreal.
Pirates 7, Mets 6
NEW YORK - Jack Wilson had a go-head RBI single in a seven-run eighth inning, and Pittsburgh - limited to one hit over the first seven innings by Tom Glavine - held on for a victory over New York.
Pittsburgh roughed up three New York relievers in the top of the eighth, then the Mets rallied against the Pirates' bullpen in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs.
Kip Wells (2-1) allowed four hits and two runs over seven innings with five strikeouts and one walk.
Jose Mesa got the final three outs for his fourth save.
