Inside Reds camp

The Cincinnati Enquirer

wily mo Meet the Reds: Wily Mo Pena

Position: Outfield

Age: 22

Height/weight: 6 feet 3/215 pounds

Throws/bats: Right/right

Born/resides: Lagunda Salada, Dominican Republic/Tampa, Fla.

How acquired: In a trade with the New York Yankees for Drew Henson and Michael Coleman, March 21, 2001.

Favorite movie: The Passion of The Christ.

Other than baseball he likes to: Fish in the Dominican Republic.

Trivially speaking: Pena originally was signed by the New York Mets on July 15, 1998, but Major League Baseball voided the contract in February 1999. The Yankees signed him to a five-year, $3.7 million major-league deal as a 17-year-old on April 5, 1999.

Injury report

John Riedling was back after a bout with a 24-hour bug, but Ryan Freel missed his second straight game. "I guess Freel's is the 48-hour bug," Reds manager Dave Miley said.

GAME REPORT: Twins 2, Reds 1

The bats: Adam Dunn and Sean Casey each had two hits. One of Casey's was a double that scored the Reds' only run of the game.

The arms: Paul Wilson, who turned 31 Sunday, had his second straight strong outing. Wilson went six innings, allowing one run on six hits. He struck out six and walked none. Wilson has gone six innings in each of his last two outings and allowed a total of three runs (2.25 ERA). Ryan Wagner pitched a perfect inning to lower his spring ERA to 0.73. John Riedling allowed a run in the eighth to take the loss.

The rest: Austin Kearns made a tough throw for the first time all spring, although he failed to throw out Shannon Stewart at the plate on Doug Mientkiewicz's single. The throw was decent but didn't have Kearns' usual steam on it. Kearns, who is coming off shoulder surgery, has been playing in the field for only two weeks this spring.

Up next: The Reds play the Pittsburgh Pirates at Ed Smith Stadium at 7:05 p.m. today. Right-hander Jose Acevedo (2-0, 3.66 ERA) faces right-hander Ryan Vogelsong (0-0, 1.65).
