Cincinnati Enquirer
MEET THE REDS: Barry Larkin
Position: Shortstop
Age: 39
Height/weight: 6-0, 185 pounds
Throws/bats: Right, right
Born/resides: Cincinnati, Orlando
How acquired: Selected in the first round (fourth pick overall) of 1985 draft.
Favorite TV show: The Cosby Show
Favorite movie: Scarface, no The Fighting Temptations. I loved that movie.
Other than baseball he likes to: Fish.
Trivially speaking: Larkin has played 2,000 games at shortstop, 14th all-time. If he plays 98 games this year, he'll pass Bert Campaneris for 10th on the list.
GAME REPORT: Indians 11, Reds 4
The bats: Javier Valentin hit his second homer of the spring. He has hit safely in six of seven games. He's hitting .400 (8-for-20) with two home runs and four RBI over that span. Jermaine Clark hit a three-run homer.
The arms: The Reds gave up 18 hits and 11 runs, so things didn't go well. Todd Van Poppel started and gave up three runs in 2 1/3 innings. Left-hander Mike Matthews gave up three runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning.
The rest: The Reds only had one error in the Indians' six-run third, but the inning was the worst display of fielding this spring for the Reds. At least three balls fell or got away from fielders who could have made plays.
Up next: The Reds takes on the New York Yankees tonight in 7:05 game at Ed Smith. The game is Fox Sports Net. Paul Wilson (1-2, 8.76 ERA) faces Jose Contreras (2-0, 2.00) in a rematch of Wednesday's pitching matchup.
