Casey thanks the Academy
Sean Casey, the Reds resident movie buff, was pleased with the way the Oscars turned out.
"I watched every second of it," he said. "I'm kind of dragging this morning. The kids have no mercy. They were up at six."
Casey loved Mystic River, so he was pleased that Sean Penn won best actor and Tim Robbins won best supporting actor.
"I was glad Lord of the Rings swept," he said. "That movie was so good. It was unbelievable."
Injury report
Nothing new. Jimmy Haynes, who was shut down because of weakness in his arm, is progressing. He is long-tossing from 90 feet.
"He had no problems," trainer Mark Mann said. "We're looking at getting him (to throw) off the mound by the weekend."
D.J. Mattox, the Rule 5 pick from the New York Mets, and Phillip Dumatrait, the left-hander obtained in the Scott Williamson deal with Boston, are close to resuming throwing. Both have been long-tossing without problems.
Felipe Lopez, coming off a severe ankle injury in July, won't be cleared to play until Dr. Tim Kremchek examines him Saturday.
