The Cincinnati Enquirer
MEET THE REDS: Reggie Taylor
Height/Weight: 6-1, 178 pounds
Born/resides: Newberry, S.C.
How acquired: In a trade for Hector Mercado from Philadelphia. He was re-signed to a minor league contract this offseason after he was non-tendered.
Favorite TV show: "I like the reality shows. There's a new one coming out called Madhouse. I also like Survivor and American Idol."
Favorite movie: Barbershop II.
Other than baseball he likes to: Fish. "I also play golf. I'm terrible."
Fun fact: Taylor is the first cousin of former Red Gookie Dawkins.
Nothing new. The Reds continue to go through spring training virtually injury-free.
Felipe Lopez cleared a big hurdle on his road back from the severe ankle injury he suffered in July when he did the slide drill for the first time.
"I was a little scared," he said. "I felt like a 1-year-old, but it was OK."
Lopez is cleared for all activity.
"It's a minor miracle with him," Reds manager Dave Miley said. "I saw the injury. It's amazing he's back."
Today will be the second last of two-a-day sessions. The club will play intrasquad games Tuesday and Wednesday. The spring opener is Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton. Paul Wilson will start.
The first of five split-squad days is Friday. The Reds will play Toronto at home and Minnesota at Fort Myers.
Aaron Harang will start the home game against Toronto; Cory Lidle will start the game in Fort Myers.
Starters will go two innings.
Some of the lists for Tuesday's intrasquad game had Danny Graves listed as the first pitcher. Thanks, but no thanks, Graves says. He doesn't want to start - even against his own team, in a practice game.
"Starting - I'm allergic to that word," Graves said. Graves, of course, spent last year going through the ill-fated move from closer to starter.
Quote of the day
St. Louis manager Tony La Russa on fellow Tampa native and Reds manager Dave Miley: "When a guy puts in that many years with one club, you cannot deny that background and how it will come in handy. He'll get what that club has."
