Reds Insider: Spring training

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Injury report

Jose Acevedo is still dealing with the effects of a severely sprained ankle he suffered Aug. 6 last season. Acevedo missed the rest of year and had arthroscopic surgery Oct. 1.

"I never expected it would take so long," he said. "Seven weeks of rehab. Five months after the surgery."

Acevedo is able to do everything he needs to do, but the Reds aren't pushing him as far as running early in the spring.

On deck

The plan is for a regular session today with the 40-man roster players going in the morning, and non-roster players going in the afternoon. The club was limited again Friday by the wet fields.

"The infields are OK," Reds manager Dave Miley said. "But the outfields haven't dried."

The first intrasquad game is Tuesday. Danny Graves, John Riedling, Brian Mallette, Chris Booker, Juan Cerros, Jesus Sanchez, Seth Etherton and Acevedo will pitch an inning each.

For Wednesday's intrasquad game, Chris Reitsma, Brian Shackelford, John Valentine, Brian Reith, Ryan Wagner, Phil Norton, Aaron Myette, Rijo Beltran and Todd Van Poppel will pitch.

Rally

The annual Reds rally in downtown Sarasota was Friday. About 150 people turned out. Cloudy, cold and windy weather.
