MESA, Ariz. - Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty for two men accused of killing Cincinnati Reds outfielder Dernell Stenson.

Deputy Maricopa County attorney Catherine Hughes said in court Tuesday that prosecutors had filed paperwork to seek the death penalty against Reginald Riddle, 19.

She said they intend to do the same for David Griffith, 20.

Both men are charged with first-degree murder.

County attorney spokesman Bill FitzGerald confirmed Wednesday that paperwork had been filed on Riddle but said prosecutors were awaiting the extradition of Griffith, a member of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.

Stenson, 25, was found Nov. 5 on a Chandler, Ariz., street, shot in the head and chest and with his hands and feet bound.

Stenson had been in Arizona playing baseball in the Arizona Fall League.

Riddle's half-brother, Kevin Riddle, 45, faces charges of car theft and hindering prosecution in the case but does not face murder charges.

Kevin Riddle was found driving Stenson's SUV hours after the body was discovered.

A fourth man was arrested on suspicion of hindering prosecution, but no charges have been filed against him.
