Notes: Aches and pains get Castro a break

By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Juan Castro, who has a stiff back and sore right knee, was out of the lineup again Tuesday.

"I think he's OK to play in the field," Reds manager Dave Miley said. "But I wouldn't want to use him to hit."

Castro is hitless in his last 15 at-bats. He started Friday and Saturday but did not play Sunday in Philadelphia.

GRAVES HONORED: Danny Graves was presented with the Reds' 2003 Roberto Clemente Award before Tuesday's game.

The award recognizes players who best "exemplify sportsmanship, community involvement and positive contributions to their team."

Graves also was given the award for the team in 2001.

The national winner of the Clemente Award will be announced at the World Series.

33 IN A ROW: Tuesday's lineup was the 33rd different one in a row used by the Reds. But Miley hopes to break that streak today.

"If all goes well, we'll use the same lineup," he said.

UP NEXT: The Reds play the Cubs in the second game of the three-game series at 7:05 p.m. today. Right-hander Josh Hall (0-1, 6.14 ERA) will face former Reds left-hander Shawn Estes (7-11, 6.19). Hall pitched seven shutout innings against the Cubs Sept. 14. He got no decision in a 1-0 Reds victory.
