OAKLAND, Calif. - Ichiro Suzuki had four hits and drove in five runs, and Bret Boone added three hits and two RBIs as the Seattle Mariners beat the first-place Oakland Athletics for the second straight day, 9-3 on Saturday.

Oakland's division lead dropped to three games over Seattle, and the A's magic number to win the West remained at five. Any combination of A's wins and Mariners losses would give Oakland its second straight division title.

Seattle cut Boston's wild-card lead to 11/2 games after the Red Sox lost 13-4 at Cleveland.

Joel Pineiro (15-11) won for just the second time in nine starts. Justin Duchscherer (1-1), recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Sept. 8, lasted four innings, allowing three runs and six hits.

Twins 7, Tigers 3

MINNEAPOLIS - Johan Santana won his eighth straight decision, and Matthew LeCroy and Dustan Mohr homered for Minnesota.

The Twins cut their magic number for winning the AL Central to five with their eighth straight win, and 11th in 12 home games. Minnesota extended its lead over second-place Chicago to four games. The White Sox were scheduled to play Kansas City later Saturday.

Detroit lost its eighth straight and fell to 18-59 on the road this season. The Tigers, at 38-116, need to win five of their final eight games to avoid tying the record for most losses in a season. Only the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics (36-117) and the 1962 New York Mets (40-120) have lost more than Detroit.

Santana (12-3) gave up three earned runs on four hits in 5 2-3 innings. The Twins scored three times in the first off rookie Nathan Robertson (1-2).

Yankees 7, Devil Rays 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Andy Pettitte became a 20-game winner for the second time, and New York clinched its ninth straight playoff berth.

The AL East leaders won for the 12th time in 14 games to climb a season-high 38 games over .500, move closer to their sixth consecutive division title and earn at least a wild-card spot in the postseason.

Pettitte (20-8), who has won 15 of 17 decisions since June 14, allowed eight hits, struck out nine and walked one in seven innings to improve to 11-1 lifetime against the Devil Rays.

Jorge Sosa (5-12) allowed six hits, struck out two and walked two in 5 1-3 innings.

Indians 13, Red Sox 4

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Indians scored 12 runs in their final two at-bats and tightened the AL wild-card race with a win over the stunned Boston Red Sox.

Casey Blake's two-run double triggered a seven-run rally in the seventh inning when Cleveland chased Derek Lowe (16-7), who dominated the Indians for six.

Josh Bard hit a leadoff homer off Lowe in the seventh and capped the unexpected inning with a two-run single. The Indians added five more runs in the eighth, turning it into a blowout.

Boston's loss allowed Seattle to move 11/2 games behind the Red Sox for the wild card with eight games remaining. The Mariners beat Oakland 9-3 Saturday.

Dave Lee (1-0), acquired by Cleveland in a trade earlier this month with Los Angeles, got his first AL win and first in the majors since Sept. 1, 2001, with San Diego.

Orioles 2, Blue Jays 1

BALTIMORE - Luis Matos hit a solo homer and later scored the winning run on Jay Gibbons' bloop single in the eighth as Baltimore edged Toronto.

Matos began the game-winning rally by reaching on a one-out infield single off Cory Lidle (12-14). Larry Bigbie singled off Trever Miller, moving Matos to third.

Gibbons followed with a flare that fell just in front of charging left fielder Reed Johnson and gave the Orioles a 2-1 lead.

Kerry Ligtenberg (3-2) got the win after getting the final out of the eighth. Jorge Julio earned his 35th save.

Royals 7, White Sox 1

CHICAGO - Brian Anderson pitched a five-hitter and Kansas City beat Chicago and Esteban Loaiza failed for the third time to get his 20th win.

The loss knocked the White Sox 41/2 games behind first-place Minnesota in the AL Central. The Royals trail the Twins by 51/2.

Anderson (13-11) is 4-1 in his six starts since joining the Royals on Aug. 25.

Loaiza (19-9), the AL All-Star game starter, allowed three runs, seven hits and walked three in six innings.

Rangers 13, Angels 4

ARLINGTON, Texas - Alex Rodriguez homered twice to extend his major league lead to 46, and Hank Blalock hit his first career grand slam for Texas.

The Rangers hit five homers to give them 137 at home this season, an AL record. Toronto held the previous mark with 134 at SkyDome in 2000.

Rodriguez had a pair of solo shots and three hits. Mark Teixeira added a two-run drive for Texas, and Rafael Palmeiro hit a solo homer, the 526th of his career.

Colby Lewis (9-9) took advantage of the early run support to win his third straight decision. Aaron Sele (7-11) took the loss.
