Notes: Harang back in rotation

By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer

CHICAGO - Aaron Harang's latest bullpen session was good enough that the Reds put him back in the rotation.

Harang, a 24-year-old right-hander, will start Tuesday against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. Left-hander Danny Serafini has been moved to the bullpen.

Harang left his Sept. 5 start after an inning with a lower back strain. He hasn't pitched since.

"He was pain-free," trainer Mark Mann said. "He's all set for Tuesday."

Serafini's help in the bullpen is sorely needed. The Reds went 20 straight games before Sunday without a starter pitching into the seventh.

Left-hander Phil Norton and right-hander Scott Randall have been particularly over-used.

Randall pitched in his third straight game Saturday and six of nine. Norton had pitched in 10 of 16 games since being acquired from the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 25.

RETURN DAY: Dave Miley said Sean Casey, Jason LaRue and Juan Castro all would start tonight's game in Pittsburgh. None of the three played in Sunday's 1-0 win.

Casey has been dealing with a sore groin for a couple of weeks now. LaRue and Castro had to leave Friday's game after developing stiff backs.

ACEVEDO UPDATE: Jose Acevedo, coming back from an ankle injury and a blister on his throwing hand, will be examined by medical director Dr. Tim Kremchek today.
