PHILADELPHIA - Chase Utley's bases-clearing triple with two outs in the eighth inning lifted the Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-3 victory over the Montreal Expos on Tuesday.
The Phillies have won four of five since losing six straight, and moved into a tie with Florida for the NL wild-card lead.
The Expos have lost five straight since sweeping a four-game series against the Phillies in Montreal last week.
After Endy Chavez gave the Expos a 3-2 lead on an RBI infield single in the eighth, the Phillies came back against Javier Vazquez (12-9).
Jim Thome walked with two outs in the eighth and Mike Lieberthal doubled. Ricky Ledee was intentionally walked to load the bases and Utley followed with his first career triple, a liner to left-center.
Dodgers 4, Astros 1
LOS ANGELES - Eric Gagne set a major-league record with his 55th consecutive save, and Fred McGriff hit two homers to give him 491 for his career.
Gagne, in only his second season as a closer, preserved the victory for Wilson Alvarez by retiring the last four batters and broke the record set by Tom Gordon from April 19, 1998-June 5, 1999, with the Boston Red Sox.
Padres 6, Diamondbacks 3
SAN DIEGO - Trevor Hoffman pitched a perfect seventh inning in his first appearance of the season, and Phil Nevin and Mark Loretta homered for San Diego. Hoffman, fifth on the career list with 352 saves, was activated from the disabled list after missing the first five months following two offseason surgeries on his right shoulder.
Giants 2, Rockies 1
SAN FRANCISCO - Pedro Feliz hit a tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning, and Rich Aurilia went 4-for-4 on his 32nd birthday as San Francisco won its fourth straight game. Aurilia matched his career high for hits and drove in Barry Bonds with an RBI single as the Giants won for the 22nd time in their last 26 home games.
Barry Bonds got a standing ovation in his first home game since the death of his father, Bobby, on Aug. 23. He went 1-for-2 with two walks.
Cubs 4, Cardinals 2 (15), 1st game; Cardinals 2, Cubs 0, 2nd game
CHICAGO - Matt Morris outpitched Kerry Wood and Jim Edmonds hit his second homer of the day as the Cardinals split their day-night doubleheader.
Sammy Sosa hit a two-run homer in the 15th inning to give the Cubs the victory in the four-hour, 47-minute opener.
Morris (9-4) allowed five hits in seven scoreless innings. He got his first win since June 25.
Pirates 3, Marlins 2
MIAMI - Jason Kendall had four hits and two RBI for Pittsburgh. Kendall, who went 6-for-11 in a three-game sweep of the Marlins last week, had three singles and a double for the Pirates, who snapped a two-game losing streak.
Kip Wells (7-7) allowed two runs and six hits in seven-plus innings to beat the Marlins.
Dontrelle Willis (11-6) fell to 0-4 in his last five starts for the Marlins, whose four-game winning streak was stopped.
Mets 3, Braves 1
NEW YORK - Al Leiter outpitched Mike Hampton again, and Jason Phillips drove in two runs for New York.
Danny Garcia singled twice in his major-league debut for the Mets, who beat Atlanta a fourth time in five meetings.
