MILWAUKEE - Tim Hummel is piling up a bit of memorabilia.
He has the ball from his first major-league hit, the scorecard from his first major-league game and the ball from his first major-league home run, among other things.
The home run ball was the latest addition to the collection. Hummel hit a solo shot in the Reds' 5-4 win over Milwaukee on Monday.
"I'm going to have to figure out a place to put it all," he said. "I don't want to just put it in a corner somewhere."
Hummel, one of the New Reds on the Block, has spent all of one week in the big leagues. He came to the Reds from the Chicago White Sox in the Scott Sullivan trade.
He went into Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers hitting .316 with the home run and four RBI.
Hummel, 24, has started at third base, second base and shortstop. That versatility, along with a decent bat, could put him in the Reds' plans for next year.
Third base and shortstop remain question marks for Cincinnati.
"It's not like anyone has talked to me about the offseason or anything, but right now, I'm confident I can compete," Hummel said. "I don't feel intimidated."
TRADE COMPLETE: Philadelphia sent outfielder Eric Valent to the Reds as the player-to-be-named in the trade for catcher Kelly Stinnett.
Valent, 26, spent the season with the Phillies' Triple-A team at Scranton and hit .218 with 12 home runs and 51 RBI in 134 games. He played 22 games for the Phillies in 2001 and seven in 2002.
CASEY, MATEO OUT: Sean Casey was out of the lineup after aggravating his injured left groin muscle Monday, and Ruben Mateo was out for the fourth straight game because of a sore right hamstring.
Both were available to pinch-hit.
"I'm going to try hard not to use Case the next two days," Reds manager Dave Miley said. "With the off day Thursday, he may be ready to go Friday (in St. Louis)."
