BOSTON - Roger Clemens walked off to a standing ovation and came out for a curtain call, tipping his cap to fans who saw what may have been his last pitch at Fenway Park.
"It was very special," he said. "It gave me the opportunity to say thank you."
And it gave Boston fans, who often booed Clemens after he left Boston following the 1996 season, a chance to show appreciation even though the New York Yankees were on their way to an 8-4 win Sunday over the Red Sox.
The victory was the 100th for Clemens at Fenway Park, where he wore the home uniform from 1984-96, compiling a 192-111 mark for Boston. He plans to retire after this season.
The win boosted the Yankees to a 5 1/2-game lead over the Red Sox in the AL East.

OAKLAND, Calif. - Miguel Tejada homered and rookie Rich Harden got his first win in five starts as Oakland finished a perfect homestand with its ninth straight victory.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Scott Spiezio and Garret Anderson each homered and drove in two runs, leading Anaheim past Kansas City. The second game of the doubleheader was postponed by rain. No makeup date was announced.

SEATTLE - Jamie Moyer beat Baltimore for the 14th consecutive time - the longest current streak by a pitcher against one team - and Seattle completed a three-game series sweep. The Mariners stayed two games behind Oakland in the AL West and moved 1 1/2 games ahead of Boston in the wild-card race.
Indians 5, Blue Jays 4
CLEVELAND - Ninth-inning throwing errors by Kevin Cash and Frank Catalanotto allowed Cleveland to score two runs for the win. Danys Baez (1-7) pitched an inning of scoreless relief for his first win in exactly a year.
