The Cincinnati Enquirer
Time for our monthly look at how the playoffs would shape up if the season ended now.
Based on Friday's standings:
Atlanta-Houston: The Astros have hung on. But unless Roy Oswalt's groin muscle gets better and he's pitching in the postseason, this is a mismatch. Atlanta has a better lineup and rotation, and the bullpens are even.
San Francisco-Philadelphia: The wild card probably will come down to the last couple of days. Arizona is closing in. If the San Fran-Philly pairing holds, the over-under on Larry Bowa intentionally walking Bonds is 11 for the series.
New York-Oakland: The Yankees would prefer that Boston win the wild card so New York gets the AL Central in the first round. If Oakland's rotation is healthy, the Athletics could give the Yankees
Seattle-Chicago: The AL Central will come down to the last days of the season. The Mariners probably would rather play Kansas City. Chicago is more of a veteran club. Bartolo Colon is a workhorse, who will be tough in a short series if he's on.
