The Reds added another young arm Monday as well as adding another player to their disabled list.
The Reds received a 19-year-old pitcher to complete the Scott Williamson trade with the Red Sox, and also placed third baseman Brandon Larson on the disabled list.
Larson, in his second stint with the Reds this season, has a strain and inflammation in the back of his left shoulder.
The injury was revealed in an MRI taken Monday. He will be evaluated in a week by Reds medical director Dr. Timothy Kremchek.
The new pitcher is left-hander Tyler Pelland, Boston's ninth-round pick in the 2002 draft.
Pelland is in his first professional season. He was 3-4 with a 1.62 ERA in three starts and eight relief appearances for Sarasota of the Gulf Coast League.
Pelland allowed only 26 hits in 39 innings, striking out 34.
The other player acquired in the Williamson deal, 22-year-old left-hander Phillip Dumatrait, is 4-0 with a 3.81 ERA in four starts for Class A Potomac.
