Omar Minaya, the general manager of the Montreal Expos, is high on the list of prospective general managers for the Reds, two sources said.
The Reds would need permission from Major League Baseball to speak to Minaya. It's unclear whether the Reds have asked for permission.
Minaya was named to run the Expos after MLB took over the club in 2002. He is baseball's first Hispanic general manager.
There are two major obstacles that stand between the Reds and Minaya. The first is money. Heis likely to demand a hefty salary. The second is that the New York Mets also need a general manager and have a history with Minaya. He was an assistant GM for Mets before landing the Expos job.
