SAN FRANCISCO - Pat Burrell hit a game-tying homer in the eighth inning and a two-run shot in the 10th, giving the Philadelphia Phillies an 8-6 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday.
Burrell and Jimmy Rollins - two Bay Area natives - homered in the 10th off Jim Brower (7-4) as Philadelphia rallied from a late three-run deficit to snap a three-game losing streak. The Phillies handed San Francisco just its third loss in the last 18 games at Pacific Bell Park.
"This year has been kind of a struggle," Burrell said. "I've had a lot of opportunities to help them win, and I haven't done it. You never want to sit, but I understand. (Manager Larry Bowa) has got to go with the guys that he thinks are going to help him win."
Jim Thome hit an early 441-foot homer for the Phillies, while Tomas Perez, Placido Polanco and Bobby Abreu also had run-scoring hits.
Turk Wendell (3-2) pitched two scoreless innings for the victory despite allowing Barry Bonds' double off the top of the right-field wall in the 10th. Bonds scored on Benito Santiago's sacrifice fly.
Cody Ransom hit his first major-league homer and Neifi Perez had a two-run double for the Giants, whose normally reliable bullpen blew it for starter Dustin Hermanson.
Pirates 10, Rockies 4
DENVER - Reggie Sanders and Brian Giles each hit a two-run home run to help Jeff D'Amico win for the first time in six starts. D'Amico (7-11) allowed four runs - three earned - and six hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Sanders hit his 22nd homer in the fourth inning and went 2-for-5, and Giles hit his 14th during the Pirates' five-run sixth.
Expos 3, Astros 1
HOUSTON - Livan Hernandez threw a six-hitter for his fifth complete game of the season as Montreal snapped an eight-game road losing streak.
Hernandez (12-7), who won for the sixth time in his last seven decisions, tied Philadelphia's Kevin Millwood and San Francisco's Jason Schmidt for the most complete games in the NL. He threw 126 pitches, struck out nine and walked two in his second complete game in his last three outings, and 28th of his career.
Marlins 7, Brewers 1
MILWAUKEE - Mark Redman (10-5) allowed one run on six hits in eight innings, including just two singles after the second inning, for Florida. He walked one and struck out seven in sending Milwaukee to its fourth straight loss.
In his second major-league start, the Brewers' David Manning (0-2) surrendered six earned runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. He nearly didn't make it out of the first, when he allowed four earned runs on four hits and needed 36 pitches to retire the side.
Cardinals 3, Braves 1
ST. LOUIS - Garrett Stephenson (6-11) dominated into the eighth inning and Eduardo Perez had two hits and an RBI for St. Louis, which ended an eight-game losing streak against Atlanta despite continued offensive woes. The Cardinals have totaled 10 runs and 28 hits in the first five games of a six-game homestand, going 2-3.
Albert Pujols' infield hit in the fourth extended his hitting streak to a career-best 23 games. He leads the major leagues with a .370 average and is 35-for-90 (.389) during the streak.
Dodgers 6, Cubs 1
LOS ANGELES - Wilson Alvarez scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings, and Dave Roberts hit his first inside-the-park home run as Los Angeles won its sixth straight.
Alvarez (2-1), making a spot start, retired 17 of his last 18 batters, struck out six and walked none in his third start this season and first since July 13 - delaying Chicago manager Dusty Baker's 900th regular-season victory for at least another day.
Roberts, whose hamstring problems have landed him on the DL twice this season, lined a 3-2 pitch down the left-field line leading off the first inning and circled the bases as the ball struck the front of the box seats and caromed past Moises Alou.
Matt Clement (9-10) allowed five runs, six hits and four walks in five innings, including a two-run homer by Robin Ventura.
Diamondbacks 2, Mets 1
PHOENIX - Steve Finley hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead Arizona to a victory over New York.
Finley pulled a 2-2 pitch from John Franco an estimated 398 feet into the right-field seats, sending the Diamondbacks to their fifth win in seven games.
Rod Barajas drove in Arizona's first run with a sacrifice fly in the third, and Stephen Randolph (6-0) allowed one hit in two innings for the victory.
Joe McEwing's RBI single in the fourth tied it for the Mets, who had won two in a row. Franco (0-3) allowed one run and two hits in one inning.
