KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Chicago White Sox acquired left-hander Scott Schoeneweis and a minor leaguer from the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night for reliever Gary Glover and two minor leaguers.
The White Sox, who were playing at Kansas City, also acquired right-hander Doug Nickle, and sent right-hander Scott Dunn and left-hander Tim Bittner to the Angels in the deal.
Schoeneweis made 47 starts the previous two years, but has been primarily used in relief this season by Anaheim. He was the Angels' player representative and the only lefty in their bullpen. He was replaced in the rotation late last June by right-hander John Lackey.
"Right now, our primary need for him is in the bullpen," White Sox general manager Ken Williams said. "He's not stretched out enough to go into the rotation."
Schoeneweis, 29, is 1-1 with a 3.96 ERA in 39 relief appearances this season. He has a 28-31 career record with a 5.10 ERA in 183 games, including 74 starts.
Williams said Schoeneweis will be given a chance in spring training to win a spot in the starting rotation.
METS-MARINERS TRADE: The New York Mets traded seldom-used infielder Rey Sanchez to the Seattle Mariners for minor league outfielder Kenny Kelly - a former college quarterback at Miami.
Sanchez was hitting .207 with 12 RBI in 174 at-bats this season with New York. He was signed as a free agent in the offseason as a replacement for Rey Ordonez, who was traded to Tampa Bay.
But injuries and the emergence of young shortstop Jose Reyes made it difficult for manager Art Howe to get Sanchez into the lineup.
YANKEES-ASTROS TRADE: The New York Yankees traded right-hander Dan Miceli to the Houston Astros on Tuesday for a player to be announced or cash.
Miceli, 32, was taken off the Yankees' roster Friday when he was designated for assignment, clearing a spot for Nick Johnson to come off the disabled list.
Miceli was expected to join the Astros for tonight's game against the Atlanta Braves.
Houston didn't plan to make a roster decision until after the opener of a three-game series at Turner Field.
MARLINS: Florida first baseman Derrick Lee was held out of the starting lineup Tuesday night because of a sore right shoulder and said his team-record streak of playing in 315 consecutive games is over.
Lee partially dislocated his shoulder on a fielding play Monday night against Arizona. He said he hopes to return to the lineup Friday after sitting out two games.
