AL: Angels' losing slide continues vs. Rays

The Associated Press

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Rob Bell allowed one run and six hits in 7 1/3 innings as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat Anaheim 3-2 Monday night, extending the Angels' losing streak to a season-high five games.

Anaheim, which had won five straight heading into the All-Star break, is on its longest losing streak since dropping six straight April 8-13 last year.

Orioles 3, Rangers 2

BALTIMORE - Pat Hentgen took a four-hitter into the seventh inning and B.J. Surhoff homered as Baltimore won its fifth straight.

Jay Gibbons and Jeff Conine also drove in runs for the Orioles, whose winning streak is their longest since a five-game run in May 2001.

Blue Jays 8, Yankees 0, 7 1/2 innings

NEW YORK - Mark Hendrickson returned from the minors to shut down the New York Yankees and Vernon Wells homered twice to lead Toronto to a rain-shortened victory.

Wells drove in three runs, and Eric Hinske and Chris Woodward each had two RBI for the Blue Jays, who tagged Jeff Weaver for 11 hits and ended the Yankees' five-game winning streak.

Red Sox 14, Tigers 5

BOSTON - Manny Ramirez went 4-for-4 with his 23rd homer and Boston hit a season-high nine doubles.

The Red Sox had 18 hits and batted around twice in a game for the second time this season as they continued to shake off a brief slump.

White Sox 4, Indians 3

CHICAGO - Joe Crede homered and Carl Everett added a two-run single as Chicago defeated Cleveland. The White Sox have won four straight and moved within six games of Kansas City in the AL Central. The Indians have lost six in a row.

Twins 5, Mariners 4

MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Twins have nearly forgotten about their awful first-half finish.

Chris Gomez hit a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning to lead Minnesota to its fifth consecutive victory. Torii Hunter homered and Shannon Stewart went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Twins, on their best stretch since winning six straight from May 4-9.

Athletics 6, Royals 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Oakland's Rich Harden pitched seven sharp innings in his major league debut and the Athletics took advantage of Kansas City's wild bullpen to beat the Royals. The Athletics drew five straight walks with two outs in the ninth to break a 1-all tie.
