SAN DIEGO - Back from the disabled list, Randy Johnson looked more like an ordinary pitcher than a dominating ace.
The five-time Cy Young winner allowed a tying homer to utility infielder Lou Merloni, and the last-place San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 Sunday.
Out for 2 1/2 months following knee surgery, Johnson (1-3) allowed two runs - one earned - and six hits in six innings. But he walked two, hit two batters with pitches and was called for a balk in his first start since April 27.
"I was a little erratic, but for the most part I felt like I kept us in the ballgame," Johnson said.
Ryan Klesko had a pinch-hit homer in the seventh off Mike Myers, his 20th of the season, and the Padres won two straight to split the four-game series.
Cubs 16, Marlins 2
MIAMI - Dontrelle Willis failed to retire a batter following a 67-minute rain delay in the bottom of the second, and the Cubs ended the rookie's eight-game winning streak.
Chicago chased Willis (9-2) with six consecutive hits and a walk in the third. He was charged with six runs in the worst outing of his brief career, inflating his ERA from 2.08 to 2.67.
Braves 11, Mets 8
ATLANTA - Pinch-hitter Javy Lopez's three-run homer keyed an eight-run rally in the eighth as Atlanta finished a four-game sweep. Pinch-hitter Marcus Giles drove in the go-ahead run as Atlanta got nine hits in the eighth to complete a stirring comeback.
Pirates 6, Brewers 3
PITTSBURGH - Kip Wells won at home for the first time in more than a year and Aramis Ramirez homered despite a sore ankle, leading Pittsburgh.
Wells (4-4), winning his second straight start after going winless for six weeks, gave up an unearned run and struck out a career-high nine in seven innings.
Phillies 3, Expos 2
PHILADELPHIA - Brett Myers struck out 10 and came within one out of a shutout, and Bobby Abreu drove in two runs for Philadelphia.
Pat Burrell hit an RBI double for Philadelphia, which took three of four from the Expos. The Phillies have won eight of 10 overall.
Giants 8, Rockies 4
SAN FRANCISCO - Alberto Castillo hit a grand slam for his first homer in two years, helping San Francisco complete a four-game sweep.
Rookie Jesse Foppert (6-8), recalled before the game to make the start, matched his career high with 10 strikeouts in six-plus innings. He allowed four runs and three hits.
Cardinals 10, Dodgers 7
LOS ANGELES - Woody Williams hit a tiebreaking home run and allowed four of a record nine homers hit in St. Louis' victory.
Rickey Henderson extended his record for leadoff homers to 81 and Jeromy Burnitz homered twice for the Dodgers. Albert Pujols became the fourth player to hit 100 home runs in his first three major league seasons as the teams set a record for home runs by two teams at Dodger Stadium, which opened in 1962.
