SAN DIEGO - Randy Johnson returned to the Arizona Diamondbacks following his third minor-league rehabilitation start and is tentatively scheduled to start Sunday against the Padres.
The five-time Cy Young Award winner has been out since having knee surgery May 1. The Diamondbacks will determine his status for Sunday following his bullpen session today.
The left-hander, who rejoined Arizona on Thursday, was tagged for five runs on 11 hits over six innings in Tuesday's rehabilitation start for Class-A Lancaster against Rancho Cucamonga.
Arizona manager Bob Brenly was suspended two games for throwing a ball into the stands after being ejected from Friday's home game with San Francisco. The suspension will begin today.
RANGERS: General manager John Hart met with Fernando Cuza, the agent for Juan Gonzalez, to determine whether the outfielder would waive his no-trade clause. They expect to meet again today.
GIANTS: Catcher Benito Santiago was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 10, because of a dislocated left pinkie finger.
RED SOX: Boston activated pitcher Casey Fossum and designated hitter Jeremy Giambi.
Fossum was 4-4 with a 5.76 ERA as a starter before going on the disabled list June 8 with shoulder tendinitis. Giambi, who went on the disabled list because of shoulder bursitis June 22, is batting .173 with five homers and 13 RBI.
TWINS: The team activated left fielder Jacque Jones, who went on the disabled list July 1 with a strained groin. He is hitting .300 with 10 homers, 35 RBI and 46 runs.
TIGERS: Danny Patterson was activated, 13 months after having reconstructive surgery on ligaments in his right elbow. Manager Alan Trammell said Patterson probably will pitch tonight against the White Sox.
PADRES: Right-hander Jaret Wright was recalled from Triple-A Portland after going 2-1 with a 1.42 ERA. He is 1-5 with an 8.90 ERA with San Diego this season.
ALL-STARS: Baseball's union won't allow All-Stars elected by players to be removed from the roster without their permission.
Oakland's Barry Zito was bumped from the AL roster Monday after the A's said they didn't want the left-hander to pitch on one day's rest.
