Boston Red Sox prospect Kevin Youkilis, a former Sycamore High and University of Cincinnati star, has been named to the U.S. roster for the fifth annual All-Star Futures Game July 13 in Chicago.
The game pits top minor league prospects from the United States against a squad of international prospects as part of the Major League All-Star festivities at U.S. Cellular Field. The game is to be televised live by ESPN2 at 5:30 p.m.
Youkilis plays for Class AA Portland of the Eastern League. The infielder was hitting .299 in 74 games with 16 doubles, four home runs and 28 runs batted in.
Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect John VanBenschoten (Milford), 3-0 with a 3.47 ERA in seven games at Class AA Altoona, also was named to the U.S. squad.
