Hee Seop Choi rejoined the Chicago Cubs and resumed workouts Tuesday, 10 days after a collision at Wrigley Field knocked him unconscious.
He no longer has headaches and no longer has to stay in his apartment and follow his team on television - something he found unbearable.
"I can't watch," he said Tuesday at Great American Ball Park. "I'm scared during the tight games."
Choi hadn't done anything physical since June 7, when he and pitcher Kerry Wood chased a popup. They collided and Choi fell hard, slamming his head on the ground.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound first baseman lay motionless for several minutes as the ballpark went silent. The game was delayed for 17 minutes while Choi was removed in an ambulance.
Choi, the first Korean-born position player in the majors, has gotten cards and letters from fans. He broke into a smile and repeatedly said "thank you" for the wishes.
"I like America," Choi said. "Now that I was injured, everybody likes me. I'm very happy. I want to play for them."
Choi has watched replays of the collision. A look of disbelief crossed his face when asked his reaction to it. "Unbelievable," he said. "I'm lucky."
ASTROS: Houston placed pitcher Roy Oswalt on the disabled list for the second time this season with a groin injury. Oswalt reinjured his groin after pitching two innings Wednesday before five other pitchers finished a combined no-hitter against the Yankees. The move is retroactive to June 12.
