PHILADELPHIA - David Bell singled in pinch-runner Nick Punto in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves Tuesday.
Jimmy Rollins went 4-for-4 with two RBI for the Phillies, who have won two of their last three games.
Turk Wendell (1-1) pitched two shutout innings to pick up his first win in two years and his first for Philadelphia. After being acquired from the Mets in July 2001, he went 0-2 before missing the entire 2002 season because of an elbow injury.
Mike Lieberthal led off the ninth with a single off Darren Holmes and Punto was sent in to run. Jimmy Rollins followed with a little dribbler in front of the plate. Holmes handled the grounder but threw wildly to first base, sending Punto to third and Rollins to second.
Bell hammered the first pitch he saw from Holmes (1-1) into deep left-center field for the game-winning hit.
Dodgers 4, Giants 1
LOS ANGELES - Kevin Brown won his ninth straight decision despite leaving with a groin injury, and Paul Lo Duca went 4-for-4 in extending his hitting streak to 24 games for Los Angeles. No announcement was made on Brown's status immediately after the game.
Cardinals 12, Brewers 3
MILWAUKEE - Garrett Stephenson won his first road game in three seasons and Albert Pujols, Miguel Cairo and Jim Edmonds homered for St. Louis. The Cardinals had gone 10 straight games since getting a win from a starter.
Stephenson (4-5) hadn't won in 11 straight road starts dating to Sept. 1, 2000, when he beat Pittsburgh. He missed the 2001 season after right elbow surgery and made just 10 starts in 2002.
Astros 4, Diamondbacks 3
HOUSTON - Jeff Kent hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning and Octavio Dotel earned his team-leading sixth victory as Houston snapped a four-game losing streak.
Mets 5, Marlins 0
MIAMI - Rookie right-hander Jae Seo won his fourth straight start and Jeromy Burnitz and Ty Wigginton homered as New York shut out Florida.
It was the third straight game in which the Mets were involved in a one-hitter, and they faced the minimum 27 batters for the first time in team history. The Mets, who have never thrown a no-hitter in their 42-year history, faced 28 hitters on seven previous occasions.
Padres 4, Rockies 3, 8 innings
DENVER - Ryan Klesko homered twice and drove in three runs, and San Diego survived another late rally to beat Colorado in a game called after eight innings because of rain.
Jake Peavy (6-5) limited the damage in a shaky fourth inning for his second straight win for San Diego, which has won three straight games for just the third time this season.
Colorado managed a late rally for the second straight night, but didn't get a final at-bat after heavy rain began falling at the start of the ninth. The game was called after an 82-minute wait, giving Jay Witasick - who got two outs in the eighth - his first save.
Rockies starter Denny Neagle (0-1) had trouble with his command at times and gave up three homers in his first start of the year.
Pirates-Expos ppd.
PITTSBURGH - The game was rained out and will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
