Sosa appeals 8-game penalty

CHICAGO - Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa on Friday appealed an eight-game suspension handed down by Major League Baseball after he was caught using a corked bat.
A hearing won't be held until next week at the earliest, meaning the Cubs outfielder was eligible to play in this weekend's highly anticipated series with the Yankees.
Sosa started in right field Friday and was greeted with a standing ovation.
