Reds chief executive officer Carl Lindner said Friday he still would loosen the team's payroll in a trade for the right pitcher, but that the Reds haven't found that deal yet.
"We keep looking for pitching," Lindner said after the shareholders meeting of American Financial Group Inc., where he is chairman and CEO. "If we had an opportunity there, we'd give on the budget a little.
"But it's like any other business. We have a budget we have to keeping looking at. . . . We're not like New York."
Lindner said unless a deal for a pitcher comes about, he doesn't anticipate much change in a payroll of about $60 million.
Speaking of the Yankees, the Reds just completed a series with the American League club at Great American Ball Park, and Lindner was feeling good about the Reds after winning two of three games.
"Any time you win two out of three against New York, that's fun," he said.
