DETROIT - If Roger Clemens is nervous about gaining his 300th victory, the Yankees right-hander isn't letting on.
"Eventually it will come," Clemens has said about becoming the 21st pitcher in history to reach the mark.
There was minor disappointment in not getting it last week at home, against Boston, with around 50 family and friends watching.
For nearly 20 years, Clemens has been a creature of habit in his preparation for a start, not varying in his running and throwing routines, and his studying of hitters from hit notes and scouting reports.
He vows his routine has been the same for tonight's game as it would be for any other game.
"My emotions never change," Clemens said. "I would be letting down a lot of people if I didn't take the same approach."
By that, Clemens meant if he were to be more emotionally charged or worked harder for some games, by extension, he would be less emotional and work less for other games.
"I've been excited by the whole thing," pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre said. "I'd like to see him get it for his own sake so he can move on."
If he fails tonight, Clemens' next start will be Saturday in Wrigley Field.
