Dodgers OF tackles fan

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles center fielder Jason Romano tackled a fan who ran onto the field at Dodger Stadium with two outs in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday night.

The fan, later identified as 26-year-old Oscar Villanueva, appeared after pinch-hitter Greg Norton's infield hit, and approached left fielder Brian Jordan.

"I went after him on a dead sprint - I just laid him out," said Romano, who entered the game in the eighth. "He came after BJ, tried to shake his hand."

Dodgers spokesman John Olguin said Villanueva will be charged with trespassing.

RED SOX: A day after he was scratched from his start against the Yankees, Boston ace Pedro Martinez said he was "a little sore" but not expecting to miss a lot of time because of a strained muscle in his side.

"I feel fine," he said before Wednesday's game.

Asked when he would pitch next, Martinez said, "I have no idea."

ROYALS: Kansas City, already forced to skip a start for one pitcher, placed right-hander Miguel Asencio on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of swelling in his throwing elbow.

DODGERS: Los Angeles reliever Guillermo Mota was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence Wednesday after being arrested April 21.

If convicted, he faces up to six months in jail, fines and suspension of his driver's license, according to Deputy District Attorney Daniel Feldstern.
