CLEVELAND - Always the showman, Omar Vizquel gave Indians fans a bonus gift to go with their souvenir rubber ducks. Matt Lawton singled in the go-ahead run, and Vizquel squeezed in another run in the eighth inning Saturday night in the Indians' 4-2 win over the Oakland Athletics.

Vizquel's daring bunt came on Omar Vizquel Rubber Duck Night. Fans throughout Jacobs Field could be heard squeezing the small toys even before the shortstop dropped his squeeze down the first-base line as Lawton broke for home.

"A squeeze play with a squeeze rubber duck," laughed Vizquel, being honored during the entire series on Omar Vizquel weekend. "It comes together, a two-in-one package."

Terry Mulholland (1-1) got his first win since Sept. 13 despite giving up Erubiel Durazo's tying homer in the eighth.

Danys Baez walked two in the ninth before striking out Eric Chavez and getting Miguel Tejada to ground into a force for his eighth save.

The A's went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 runners.

"We got four hits last night and four again tonight," Oakland manager Ken Macha said. "We're not getting any offense. The bottom line is four hits."

Orioles 2, Devil Rays 0

BALTIMORE - Pat Hentgen (1-0), who missed most of the last seasons following elbow ligament replacement surgery, allowed two hits in seven innings for his first win since beating Detroit on May 16, 2001. Baltimore stopped a six-game losing streak.

Jeff Conine and Jerry Hairston drove in runs for the Orioles. Mike Hargrove resumed managerial duties for Baltimore for the first time since the death of his mother May 12.

Buddy Groom pitched a perfect eighth and Jorge Julio finished the three-hitter for his 10th save.

Blue Jays 7, Royals 4

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Frank Catalanotto broke a 3-all tie with a bases-loaded triple off an angry Jason Grimsley (1-3) with two outs in the eighth.

Kansas City, whose AL Central lead was cut to a half-game over Minnesota, has lost four of its last five and is 8-14 following a 16-3 start.

Just before the homer, first-base umpire Gerry Davis called Orlando Hudson safe on a close play and Kansas City players argued. Grimsley jawed at Davis after the triple, glared at the umpire when walking to the dugout, then came back to argue and later tossed a bucket onto the field.

Roy Halladay (4-2) gave up three runs - two earned - and five hits in seven innings, and Cliff Politte got three straight outs for his fifth save, completing a six-hitter.

Twins 3, White Sox 1

MINNEAPOLIS - Joe Mays (4-3) allowed one run and seven hits in 6 2-3 innings, improving to 8-2 against Chicago.

Center fielder Torii Hunter helped preserve the lead by robbing Carlos Lee of a potential homer with one on in the seventh, leaping and backhanding the ball about 4 feet above the 7-foot fence.

J.C. Romero combined with LaTroy Hawkins and Eddie Guardado for hitless relief, with Guardado got three outs for his ninth save.

Jon Garland (2-4) gave up two runs - one earned - and six hits in six innings.

Rangers 5, Yankees 2

NEW YORK - Ismael Valdes came off the disabled list and combined with three perfect relievers to silence the Yankees, and the Texas Rangers took advantage of two tough errors to beat New York 5-2 Saturday.

Texas pitchers retired the last 16 batters. Manager Buck Showalter's last-place team sent his former club to its third straight series loss - the Yankees had not dropped three series in a row since May 11-20, 1999.

Overall, the first-place Yankees lost for the fifth time in six games. Texas had won only twice in eight games, including a 12-inning victory Friday night over New York.

Valdes (3-2) had been sidelined since April 19 because of tendinitis in the back of his right shoulder. But other than allowing a two-run homer to Robin Ventura, Valdes was sharp. Brian Shouse, Francisco Cordero and Ugueth Urbina did the rest in impressive fashion with Urbina getting his 12th save.

Angels 6, Red Sox 2

BOSTON - Troy Glaus hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning off Mike Timlin (3-2) and Anaheim came from behind for the second consecutive game to beat Boston.

Jarrod Washburn (4-4) allowed one earned run and seven hits in seven innings, walking one and striking out three. Brendan Donnelly pitched 1 1-3 scoreless innings to protect his perfect ERA before Troy Percival got the last two outs for his seventh save.

Anaheim added three more in the ninth thanks to a gaffe by Boston right-fielder Trot Nixon. With one out and runners on first and second, David Eckstein flied out to Nixon, who flipped the ball into the stands.

The runners were each given two bases, meaning Benjie Molina scored to make it 4-2 and Jeff DaVanon went to third. Shawn Wooten and Garret Anderson added RBI singles.

Mariners 6, Tigers 3

DETROIT - Bret Boone homered twice and drove in four runs to back Jamie Moyer and lead Seattle past Detroit.

Both of Boone's homers cleared Comerica Park's new fence in left and fell short of the old one. He became the first player to hit two new-fence homers in the same game. Ichiro Suzuki added three hits, including a homer off Nate Cornejo (3-3).

Moyer (6-2) gave up three runs and 10 hits in 6 2-3 innings, striking out a season-high eight. Kazuhiro Sasaki got his sixth save.
