Reds vs. Cardinals series preview

When: Today, Tuesday, Wednesday 7:10 p.m.; Thursday 12:35 p.m.

Where: Great American Ball Park.

TV: Fox Sports Net, today, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Radio: WLW (700 AM).

Records: Reds 13-18, fifth place in the National League Central. Cardinals 17-12, first place in the NL Central.

The arms: Today - RHP John Riedling (0-0, 5.09 ERA) vs. RHP Woody Williams (4-0, 1.09 ERA). Tuesday - RHP Jeff Austin (1-1, 4.50) vs. RHP Brett Tomko (2-2, 4.20); Wednesday - RHP Danny Graves (1-2, 6.23) vs. RHP Jason Simontacchi (1-1, 6.15); Thursday - RHP Paul Wilson (1-3, 5.19) vs. RHP Garrett Stephenson (2-2, 4.14).

The bats: The Cardinals lead the NL in hitting and have struck out the least of any team. Jim Edmonds (.402, 7 home runs, 20 RBI) and Albert Pujols(.381, 6 HRs, 20 RBI) and Edgar Renteria (.361, 4 HRs, 26 RBI) are all hot. J.D. Drew, Scott Rolen and Fernando Vina are all hovering around .240.

The rest: The Cardinals, who have a seven-game winning streak, are second in the NL in fielding. The Cards won the series with the Reds last year, winning 11 of 19 games.
