AL: Blue Jays rally to beat Royals

By The Associated Press

TORONTO - The Toronto Blue Jays overcame a seven-run deficit, scoring six runs in the ninth inning to beat the Kansas City Royals 10-9 Sunday as Mike MacDougal blew a save chance for the first time this season.

Toronto trailed 8-1 before scoring one run in the seventh and two in the eighth. Mike Bordick's single tied it against MacDougal (1-1), who had been 9-for-9 in save chances, and the winning run scored on an error by shortstop Angel Berroa.

Cliff Politte (1-2) got one out for the win. Kansas City dropped to 17-5.

Rangers 10, Yankees 7

ARLINGTON, Texas - Alex Rodriguez went 5-for-5 with six RBIs, one short of his career high, giving manager Buck Showalter his first win against his former team.

Rodriguez hit a two-run double that tied it at 4 in the fourth. An inning later, his three-run double capped a five-run outburst.

R.A. Dickey (2-1) got his second win in four days, giving up one run and three hits in 1 1-3 innings, and Ugueth Urbina got his eighth save when pinch-hitter Jason Giambi hit into a game-ending double play.

Jeff Weaver (2-1) allowed nine runs - seven earned - and 11 hits in four innings.

Mariners 4, Tigers 3

SEATTLE - Freddy Garcia (2-3) won for the first time since April 6, allowing three runs and four hits in seven innings while striking out six as Detroit dropped to 3-20, the worst start in team history.

Seattle, which built a 4-2 lead in the third, wrapped up a 5-1 homestand and headed to Yankee Stadium to play New York in a three-game series between division leaders that starts Tuesday.

Arthur Rhodes pitched the eighth and got one batter out in the ninth before Jeff Nelson got two outs for his second save.

White Sox 3, Twins 1

CHICAGO - Esteban Loaiza (5-0) allowed one run and six hits in seven innings as Chicago won for the second time in the emotional three-game series. Damaso Marte finished the six-hitter for his first save.

Rick Reed (1-4) gave up just three runs and three hits in seven innings, combining with Eddie Guardado on a three-hitter. Jose Valentin homered in the first.

Chicago manager Jerry Manuel was ejected in the first for arguing a call at first base. On Saturday night, three players were ejected, including Chicago starter Jon Garland, as the benches emptied.

Athletics 4, Indians 3

OAKLAND, Calif. - Terrence Long hit a tiebreaking double off Danys Baez (0-3) with two outs in the ninth as Oakland completed a three-game sweep.

Erubiel Durazo had three hits and drove in a pair of runs for the A's, who won their fourth straight overall and beat the Indians for the eighth consecutive time.

Jody Gerut, who made his major league debut on Saturday, had three hits for the Indians (7-18), off to their worst start since going 4-21 in 1969. The Indians have lost a season-high six straight and nine of 11.

Orioles 7, Devil Rays 4

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Sidney Ponson (2-2) allowed three runs and seven hits in 6 2-3 innings, striking out seven.

Deivi Cruz and Geronimo Gil had two RBIs each for Baltimore, which has won eight of 12.

Rey Ordonez hit a run-scoring double, giving him a team-high 19 RBIs, as the Devil Rays came up short in their bid to sweep a series for the first time since taking three games from Detroit to open the 2002 season.

Red Sox 6, Angels 4, 14 innings

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Pinch-hitter David Ortiz and Jason Varitek opened the 14th inning with home runs on consecutive pitches to lift Boston over Anaheim.

Manny Ramirez homered and drove in three runs for the Red Sox. Pedro Martinez struck out 10 in seven innings and left leading 4-2, but the beleaguered Boston bullpen cost him a win for the second time this season - the other coming on opening day.

Garret Anderson hit an RBI double in the eighth off Brandon Lyon and Bengie Molina tied it with an RBI single off Chad Fox in the ninth.

With Anaheim reliever Scot Shields unavailable because of his spot start Saturday night, starter Mickey Callaway (1-3) came on in the 13th.

Ramiro Mendoza (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings for the victory, and Jason Shiell got three outs for his first career save.
